Take a Bearing (TO)

1. Determining directions by means of a compass. 2. Dipping = determining the level of liquids in tanks and bilges by means of fuel level plungers and lines

Tally Clerk

Common term for a cargo inspector who checks the cargo during unloading or loading in respect of number of pieces, dimension, marks and outside condition. Today, the tally clerk's activities have been integrated into the profession of a sea cargo inspector, wherein the latter also comprises the activities of the former cargo inspector and billeting officer

Tally Sheet

Part of the shipping note which serves as a working paper for the tally clerk / sea cargo inspector when checking outward cargo

Tank Container

Special container consisting of a tank surrounded by a frame having the dimensions of a container which is used for the transport of liquids such as e.g. fruit juice, Whiskey, chemicals and gas. Hapag-Lloyd only use 20" tank containers which are, however different in respect of their volume

European Community's Integrated Tariff

Tariff

A document issued by a carrier setting forth applicable rules, rates, and charges for the movement of goods. It sets up a contract of carriage between the shipper, consignee, and carrier. In international trade applications, the term also refers to a tax on imports
