Through Container Service

Continuous container traffic from the forwarder to the consignee. Syn.: Through transport, door to door or multimodal transport

Through Freight

Way of transport consisting of several stages, wherein the stages only comprise transport by sea. Hapag-Lloyd consider the following areas to be through freight areas: Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Iberia and Africa

Through Rate

The total rate from the port of origin to final destination

Throughput Charge

The charge for moving a container through a container yard off or onto a ship

Tidal Harbour

Harbour whose harbour basin directly opens into the sea entrance and which is thus subject to the influence of the tides. Its capacity for loading and unloading big ships can vary accordingly. Opposite: dock harbour

Difference in water level between high tide and low tide

TIDE

1. Term for ebb and flow. 2. Regular change in sea level of most seas by intervals of about 6 hours

TIER

Division of the container ship from bottom to top in vertical layers which are numbered from the bottom up to the hatch cover and from the hatch upwards. The tier is used as a parameter for indicating the stowage position of a container in the ship
